Technology at DA&P
We are just as serious about free technology as free culture here at Dragonsept Arts and Publishing. Here you can find links to the homes of some of the projects we use in creating our content.
Literature
- OpenOffice.Org: The office productivity suite, and the wordprocessor in particular, is the most important tool that a computer-based writer has. I like OpenOffice because it has all the features of a commercial office suite, but it's free software. Not only do I use it for my writing, my kids use it for school work. It's also cross-platform, so there is no need to change formats to change systems.
- Scribus: When I need to create something that's more laid out than a simple printed page, I use Scribus. I am not a desktop publishing guru, nor am I widely versed in the commercial alternatives. That said, Scribus offers a wide range of features without being too hard for a hobbyist like me to use.
Graphics
- GIMP: GIMP is a great program, capable of pretty astounding feats of graphic editing. I used it to create our banner here, and I also use in extensively to create graphics and textures for Second Life.
If you know a great free and open software package for use by artists of any stripe, contact us and let us know.
